David Goldstein, Psy.D.
Welcome to Gold Psychological Services. My work sits at the intersection of psychology, law, and education — two fields where the stakes are high and the need for precision is critical.
I bring a rare dual expertise: nearly 20 years as a certified school psychologist, and over a decade working as a forensic psychologist in courts across New Jersey. That breadth is what sets my practice apart.
Expert Witness & Forensic Evaluations
Since 2015, I have worked as an expert witness in courtrooms throughout New Jersey, serving both the criminal and civil sides of the legal system. My forensic practice is built on rigorous methodology, clear reporting, and the ability to communicate complex psychological findings in ways that are meaningful to judges, attorneys, and juries.
"The courtroom demands clarity. My job is to translate complex psychological science into findings that inform — not obscure — the legal process."— David Goldstein, Psy.D.
On the criminal side, I regularly evaluate defendants for competence to stand trial and competence to waive Miranda rights, conduct NGRI and diminished capacity assessments, prepare juvenile waiver evaluations, and author sentencing and mitigation reports. I also perform violence and psychosexual risk assessments.
My civil forensic work includes firearm ID and permit evaluations, mental health expungements, and disability and personal injury evaluations.
How I Work
Whether I am testifying in a courtroom or meeting with a family to review a child's evaluation results, I lead with the same commitment: thoroughness, honesty, and genuine care for the people involved. Psychological evaluations carry real consequences — for individuals, families, and the legal system — and I take that responsibility seriously.
I believe the best evaluations are ones that are clearly communicated. That means well-written reports, transparent methodology, and the willingness to explain my findings in plain language to whoever needs to understand them.
If you are an attorney looking for a credible, experienced expert witness, or a parent seeking clarity for your child, I welcome the conversation.
